After School Tips

After School Tips

The back-to-school season is such an exciting time, but it can also feel like a big transition for our little ones (and for us as parents too!). New routines, long days, and all that learning can sometimes leave children feeling tired, overwhelmed, or even a little wobbly.

At Mama Sensory, we believe play is the perfect way to bridge that gap between school and home. Sensory activities provide a calm space for children to regulate after a busy day, while also creating opportunities to connect and talk about how their day went.

Here are a few simple tips to make the transition easier:

Keep after-school time calm Create a cosy corner or tray where your child can decompress before diving into homework or activities.

Use sensory play for connection Playing with rice, sand, or pom poms while you ask gentle questions makes sharing about their day feel easier.

Follow their lead Some children will be ready to chat right away, others may need quiet time before opening up.

Remember every child is unique All children learn and develop at their own pace. There’s no one "right" timeline.

Our sensory play kits are designed with this in mind giving your child a fun, open-ended way to explore, regulate, and express themselves after school.

Here’s to making this school year one full of growth, confidence, and connection.
